Warframe – The New War

The next expansion for Warframe - The New War, should be coming sometime this Winter! Players can also expect to see crossplay and a mobile version sometime later next year. Read more for the details!

Just a few months ago, in August at TennoCon 2021, Warframe’s developer Digital Extremes announced to fans of the multiplayer free-to-play first-person shooter that a new expansion was planned for release this year. However. this expansion was originally announced back in the summer of 201. Instead, it was decided to postpone as there were plans for so much additional content that releasing on that timeline was just not going to be realistic. Not to mention the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

That being said, as there are only around 10 weeks left before the end of the year, and there is no indication from the developers that there are going to be any further delay, it’s starting to look more and more like the expansion titled Warframe – The New War will be released sometime around Christmas.

There is a fair amount of information about what sort of storyline elements that players can expect, and it’s apparently going to be presented in the form of a series of mini-quests rather than as a single, long mission. Interestingly, for only the second time in the game’s history, players will be able to play as non-Tenno characters, including Kahl-175, a Grineer Lancer; Veso, a Corpus Tech; and Teshin, the Conclave Master.

It’s not unreasonable to expect that there will be other new additions to the game, such as new Tenno, characters, locations, events, weapons, items, and other content, but that is not yet revealed. Additionally, it’s possible that the New War expansion may also include some updates to the UI or bug fixes or quality of life improvements, but that is also not yet public knowledge. It’s likely that those aspects of the expansion won’t be known until it’s released.

Aside from announcing the next expansion, it was also revealed to the public by the development team that crossplay was finally coming to Warframe. After so many years, friends can now play with each other regardless of whether they’re on PC, Playstation, or Xbox. One reason why there has been a delay is the hesitancy of the development team to commit to having to release updates for all versions of the game for all platforms simultaneously. As fans of the game will note, almost every major expansion or update for Warframe was released piecemeal, with different platforms receiving their updates on different time schedules.

In any case, the developers also announced that a mobile version of the game was going to be released as well. Unfortunately, it’s not yet clear when that will be, and there isn’t much information about the specifics. It’s speculated that this is something that we might see sometime in 2022, but only time will tell.

We’re very excited to see how the deep lore and story of the Warframe universe will be shown to the players. We’ll be sure to keep you updated with all the latest Warframe news!

Warframe is available for Windows, PlayStation 4 & PS5, Xbox One and Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. Within a few years of its initial release in 2013, the game had attracted at least 50 million players and is currently among the most played games on Steam. For a game that is almost a decade old, it still boasts significant engagement with its fans and has stayed remarkably relevant over the years. This multiplayer free-to-play role-playing first-person shooter was developed and published by Digital Extremes.
