Phasmophobia: unusual horror game with VR support

Phasmophobia is a horror-survival video game produced by indie developer Kinetic Games. The creators intended to use VR goggles during the game. The goal of the game is to collect information about ghosts with other team members.

Phasmophobia is a super fun horror game that is currently in the early stages of development as of right now however, it will be released for consoles in the near future.

The game is currently available on Steam and is available for the low price of $15. Sadly the game still suffers from minor bugs and feels slightly incomplete, but this is to be expected with a game in development.

The premise of the game is simple. Essentially you and a group of people are to explore a house and follow a list of objectives written on the whiteboard. Most of the time it will involve capturing, or luring a ghost. However, the objectives change for each playthrough, so it’s important to take note of that.

There are several types of ghosts in Phasmophobia, they are also known as “ghost types” these ghost types consist of weird, and wonky traits. Some are shy, while others are straight-up aggressive and will kill you with no hesitation.

Pros

  • Amazing graphics & visuals

Phasmophobia has some really good visuals, the quality of the graphics in this game is astounding. The bright colored flashlight, and the super well-detailed house, give the game a nice feel too it. Overall the quality of the graphics for a horror game like this is great and is one of the golden features of Phasmophobia.

  • Super fun gameplay

Phasmophobia gameplay revolves around following objectives throughout your search for ghosts. Some objectives may be more difficult than others, so it is important to take precautions when entering the building. You should also be aware of your surroundings, as lower sanity will affect your vision, and make you become more fearful, therefore making your venture through the house much harder than normal.

  • One of a kindPhasmophobia

Phasmophobia is a one of kind horror game that has a super unique premise to it. Most horror games simply have the player escaping a certain place, or finding clues. However, in phasmophobia, players are following objectives, and tasks, and taking down ghosts.

  • Bonus

Did you know? Phasmophobia supports VR, yeah it’s a really cool feature, that allows the player to have a first-person perspective in VR.

Cons

  • Needs more content

While Phasmophobia is a very enjoyable horror game, it becomes dry very quickly, because of its lack of additional content. For this game to be successful long-term, it will need to have substantial support, and updates to maintain growth and popularity. Otherwise, it will fade into obscurity, and be a lost gem of a horror game.

  • Lots of bugs & glitches

The character models and models, in general, can sometimes glitch out, or stutter a little bit. While its common for most games in development to have these issues; it can still be annoying for players trying to enjoy the game.

Should you buy Phasmophobia?

Phasmophobia is available on the Steam store for around 15$ USD. The game has overwhelmingly positive reviews making it a highly popular game. The quality of the game, in general, is very good, and there are only a few minor issues with the game. If you love horror games or enjoy the spooky aesthetic, then this game has it all. It even supports VR, so if you are into that stuff, you can enjoy Phasmophobia in VR. Phasmophobia also has really fun multiplayer, bring your friends along for a spooky night in the house.

Conclusion

Overall Phasmophobia has a lot of room for improvement, but this doesn’t mean it is a bad game. In fact, the game is overall very fun and very well-made. I’m just hoping that the game will have enough updates, and support to maintain long-term success, because this game has so much potential to grow, and become strong.
