Friday Night Funkin’ Quiz
Developed by four Newgrounds users, Friday Night Funkin’ is a popular open-source rhythm game. It was initially released on November 1, 2020, and will remind you of popular Flash games from the 2000s. It’s very similar in style to Dance Dance Revolution and PaRappa the Rapper and introduces you to the character Boyfriend.
During the game, you work to defeat various characters in a rapping or singing contest so that Boyfriend can hopefully get together with his crush, Girlfriend. The aim is to complete the level without running out of health before the song ends. The game was first created for the Ludum Dare 47 but has since become increasingly popular on Newgrounds. Since this version’s release, a Kickstarter campaign is being used to create and launch a full version of Friday Night Funkin’, which players are eagerly anticipating.
The levels in the game are called weeks, and during the game, you need to pass three songs each week to progress. During each of the weeks in the game, you meet a new opponent. You’ll choose between either free play mode or story mode when you play the game, depending on your preferences. In free play mode, you can play any single song by itself that you select. When you play the game, you’ll see a pattern of musical notes, which you must match on your keyboard. Of course, as the game progresses, you’ll find it gets much quicker and more challenging to keep up with the patterns, as with popular dance mat games in the past. Taking part in a duet against your opponent or sometimes playing different patterns, you’ll find the game constantly challenges and engages you with the new weeks you face.
