Fortnite – Update 16.30
Published May 2, 2021The latest update to Fortnite provides new content and some frequently requested quality of life improvements, bug fixes, and some new weapons and skins.
The fourth major update to Season 6 of Fortnite has been released just earlier this week. Added to the game is the long-awaited Unstable Bow, along with a fair number of desperately needed quality of life improvements to the crafting system, bug fixes, and new skins.
First, we should begin with the most exciting and highly anticipated new additions to the game. An exotic bow weapon called the Unstable Bow. (We reported on this not that long ago). This weapon is obtained by interacting with Rebirth Rave near Fort Crumpet and costs 500 bars. The Unstable Bow uses a targeting system to fire its projectiles which in order to be fired, the optimal distance must be charged. While the distance the projectile is fired depends on how long the weapon is charged, the damage is the same regardless (in this case, 89 damage). After every shot, the weapon will effectively behave as one of the following bows (although with a different DPS): the Primal Flame Bow, firing a flame arrow; the Primal Stink Bow, firing a Stink Arrow (which behaves similar to a Stink Bomb); the Mechanical Explosive Bow, which fires an explosive arrow; or the Mechanical Shockwave Bow, which fires a shockwave arrow.
Another weapon was also added, the E-11 Blaster Rifle, which formerly was only used by The Mandalorian NPC but is now available for players. This assault rifle uses energy ammo and does 108 DPS. Its cooldown is comparable to the minigun and functions similarly to the First Order Blaster Rifle, which was another Star Wars crossover item introduced back in Season 1.
A change that a lot of players are very excited about is the improvements to the crafting system. No longer will players have to open up a menu and go through the challenging rigamarole that accompanies that. Now, in order to craft, all players need to do is equip a craftable item and hold the inventory button to jump directly to the crafting tab. This means that you will spend less time in menus, leaving you relatively defenseless to enemies. Additionally, inspecting an item will now show the exact numerical stats of the item rather than showing bars that are very unintuitive to compare to each other.
A new LTM (limited-time mode) called The Floor Restores will be available for play this weekend (April 30th – May 2nd), which is essentially the opposite of another LTM called The Floor is Lava. In this LTM, the ground automatically heals players, although all healing items have been removed. This means that players should avoid building too high in this mode and losing the advantage of staying close to the ground.
There were also a few bugs fixed in both Battle Royal mode and Creative mode:
Battle Royale
- A bug that was causing players to receive a quest from Jonesy The First that did not grant rewards has been fixed.
- Storm visual effects appearing outside of the Storm should no longer occur.
Creative
- The “Recent Islands” list will now update correctly upon entering a Private Island.
- A flag will now correctly respawn when a flag character leaves the game.
- The “Allow Spectate Other Teams” setting should now be working properly.
Finally, the Neymar Jr. icon series outfit (paying homage to Soccer/Football star Neymar da Silva Santos Jr.) can now be unlocked for owners of the Chapter 2 Season 6 Battle Pass by completing the Neymar Jr Quest.
Fortnite is currently available on Windows, macOS, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, iOS, and Android.
