Call of Duty: Warzone – The Crossbow Incident
Published March 31, 2021Call of Duty: Warzone surprisingly released a new weapon but due to some issues with functionality, the developer decided to remove it from the game.
Call of Duty: Warzone is a multiplayer battle royale video game, available to everyone and free to play. The game features a squad of three members shooting their way to the top to reach the victory. The excellent combination of fantastic gameplay and some swift multiplayer features makes it attractive to a substantial player base.
Although the game is free, there are several things to purchase with real money. Those perks are either thrilling weapons, fancy skins, or an exciting new battle pass that includes eye-catching emblems, blueprints, and other cosmetic stuff that can enhance the overall gameplay experience.
The Mysterious Purchasable Weapon
Speaking of purchasable firearms, Call of Duty: Warzone surprisingly released a weapon on March 18, 2021. It was a crossbow named ‘R1 Shadowhunter’. As the developers did not announce it on the patch notes, its introduction was somewhat surprising. Within a few hours of its release, the players started to purchase it but later realized something was wrong.
The Warzone issue
It turned out that the crossbow was not functional at all! In other words, you cannot use it or even equip it. However, this non-functionality was only limited to the Call of Duty: Warzone. The other franchise of Call of Duty – Black Ops Cold War also featured this weapon fully functional in multiplayer and zombies. The only way to own that crossbow in Black Ops Cold War was to unlock it via completing a unique set of achievements.
The achievement that leads to the base version of the crossbow R1 Shadowhunter is to equip a special weapon with no attachments and get three one-shot, one-kill medals in 15 individual matches.
The Good News:
As for the weapon’s non-functionality, Activision, the Call of Duty Franchise creator, decided to remove it from the game and promised a full refund to the players who have spent their money on an unusable crossbow.
After the fans found out that the weapon won’t be available anymore, Activision also offered another satisfying compensation. The progress the players have made so far to unlock the crossbow will remain. The players who earned their camos will also keep them until the weapon gets officially released in the game.
So far, there is no official release day for the final version of the bow.
